REGULATION ABOUT THE DEFINITION OF A JEW

A regulation about the definition of a "Jew" in the General Government, July 24, 1940.

Based on the 5th article of the Decree of the Führer and Chancellor of the German Reich about the administration of occupied Polish territories from October 12, 1939 […] I order that:

If the term "Jew" is used in the legal and administrative regulations in the General Government, it should be defined as a person who, according to the Reich’s laws, is a Jew or is seen as a Jew, a person, who as a former citizen of Poland, or one without a citizenship, is a Jew or is seen as a Jew according to the 2nd article of this regulation.

2.1 A Jew is a person who has at least two racially Jewish grandparents:

2.2 A Jew is a person who has at least two racially Jewish grandparents if:

- as of September 1, 1939, the individual belonged to a Jewish religious community or was admitted into one after this date,

- the individual was married to a Jew when this regulation enters into force or if they marry a Jew after this date,

- they are born out of wedlock from a Jewish parent after May 31, 1941

Every grandparent who belonged to a Jewish religious community is defined as a racially pure Jew.
